How You Can Help
Volunteer! Coalition groups
are always looking for new volunteers and will train you for any of the
various volunteer positions including answering the crisis line, providing
emergency transportation or childcare, speaking to community groups or
helping with office work. Volunteers are an integral part of the crisis
work done by Coalition Groups. During 1994, 871 volunteers donated over
115,396 hours answering crisis calls, counseling battered women and sexual
assault survivors, providing shelter and advocacy.
Make a Donation! A financial
contribution to one of the programs listed, or to the Coalition, will help
insure that services for battered women and rape survivors in Illinois
will continue. Donations of food, blankets or office supplies are also
welcome.
Speak Out! Learn the facts about
domestic violence and sexual assault and talk to your friends, family and
co-workers. If you belong to an organization that would like to learn more
about domestic violence or sexual assault, contact the program closest
to you to arrange for a speaker. Let your state and federal legislators
know that you support legislation that provides funding for domestic violence
and sexual assault programs and insures that women are protected from abuse.
If you know a battered woman or rape survivor, let her know that you care
and that there are groups who can offer her support.
